Hands Heal: Communication, Documentation, and Insurance Billing for Manual Therapists
Published in Paperback by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (15 January, 2002)
Author: Diana L. Thompson
Average review score:

obsession with documentation is now the future of massage...
Her first edition of "Hands Heal" was a collection of forms used for charting massage therapy sessions. When I saw the new book on the shelf being three times as thick as the first I thought "Oh my what more can be done with charting!" I now understand her obsession with charting. It is not just charting your sessions, but learning to communicate what you do, so the medical community and the public will begin to understand massage therapy as a healing modality. Communication starts with the therapeutic relationship with the client. Healing begins when the client becomes involved in the process. Then you can pass the information along to all parties involved - the lawyers, the doctors, whoever. If you document every treatment, you will be able to find out what is working and what is not with each individual. Documentation can assist you in builing your practice and support the massage profession as a whole. I particularly liked the section on ethics as she supports the idea of peer groups, mentoring and supervision as a means of development for the practitioner. I believe the future of the profession lies in those areas.
If you are a massage therapist in any state, this will guide you to a successful practice whether you are involved in billing insurance companies or not.

The hydrogen world view

Author: Roger E. Billings

this book revolutionized my view of the world.
Dr. Billings is right on -- the future is as he sees it -- long live Dr. Billings, and his underground refugee colony.

Understanding atmospheric Hydrogen allows one to see the vision of the future -- free, and perpetual energy. Even if it means living underground as gnomes.

I found the book to be enlightening and ahead of its time -- look at the publication date, and think how right the Almighty Dr. is proving to be . .

GOOD BUY
Take it from someone who has passed the board. You only need two books Lippincott & Kaplan. I'm selling both mine. Whatever you score in the practice tests will be almost equal to what you will get on the board. Good for sizing yourself up before taking the board. I cut off at 75Q. Take my advice if you are running out of time. Study concurrently x 5hrs QD x 8 weeks. Mosby & Davis are good while your in school, but not for the exam.

London : a companion to its history and archaeology
Published in Unknown Binding by Kyle Cathie ()
Author: Malcolm Billings
Average review score:

Excellent guide & history of what's left to see in London
Though I lived in Europe for several years, I never had the opportunity to visit Great Britain, so it may be odd that I've long had a strong interest in the history of London. This well-written and beautifully illustrated survey of the capital's course since its founding by the Romans c.50 A.D. is very satisfying in that regard. Billings, a sort of non-academic historian at the BBC, is heavy on the architecture and archaeology of London's churches, but that's about all that remains from the earlier centuries. He also doesn't have much good to say about the British habit of continually tearing down historical structures and replacing them with badly designed office blocks -- which is all the more frustrating since so little that was built before the 18th century survived both the Great Fire of 1666 and the more recent Blitz. There's also a very good "brief guide" to the City's Churches and an extensive bibliography.

A Must Have For Medical Billing
I had decided to start a Medical Billing Center and purchased all the software, etc. All I needed was examples to try to see if I could really do medical billing. With Dr. Doe, I was able to practice and get a full overlook of the office. This book gave me a complete one weeks work of doctor billing. This book does not leave out any details!! It is complete in the world of billing. It includes real diagnosis, superbills, explanation of benefits, to copies of insurance cards. Now that I have signed a real doctor, I think this book gave me the incouragment and experience that I was looking for, and let me know that I could do this. This is truly a MUST HAVE!!!

Phenomena
Published in Paperback by Jamestown Pubns (April, 1984)
Authors: Henry Billings and Melissa Billings
Average review score:

This book is great for teaching grammar & critical thinking.
The stories in this book are interesting and well written. You really have to think hard about sentence structure and paragraph development to correctly answer the questions at the end of each story. My son is emotionally handicapped and gifted. This is the first book I've found that adequately challenges him and does not require him to do a lot of writing to complete his exercises. He actually enjoys doing his work now, something that has never happened before.

The Dreamkeepers : Successful Teachers of African American Children
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass (February, 1997)
Author: Gloria Ladson-Billings
Average review score:

Color Does Matter in the Classroom
I was very impressed with the book, The Dreamkeepers:Successful Teachers of African American Children by Gloria Ladson-Billings. I would recommend it to all teachers whether they be white or black. I would also urge African American parents to read this book because it is very insightful about the academic needs of African American students and how those needs should be met. The goal of this book is to give insight on educating through "culturally relevant teaching". Gloria Ladson-Billings gives a perspective to teaching that many people may not have considered before reading this book. Through culturally relevant teaching, for African American children specifically, educators use black culture to maintain it. In too many instances African American history and culture are not represented in textbooks and curriculum and many times when it is represented it is distorted in some way. This neglect in accurately teaching black children gives them a negative outlook on life and their people. The specific examples used by the author show culturally relevant teaching at work and how it has been successful.

A Must-Read Book for All to Keep The Hopes and Dreams Alive
After reading Dr. Ladson-Billing's book, The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African-American Children, I found it to be a truly inspiring and enriching book with a great perspective
and discourse for the terms of multicultural education in practice and culturally relevant teaching. The author uses a
great technique by telling her story in three voices. Her first written voice is; that of an African American scholar and researcher, second; that of an African American teacher, and third; that of an African American woman, parent, and community
member.

It is very well written and easy to read and comprehend for anyone. This should be a reference and resource book in the L.R.C. or library, as well as classrooms of all urban schools and teacher-training programs for teacher/educator skills and practices.

The author, Gloria Ladson-Billings, explains thourghly in, The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African- American Children,
how these eight successful teachers of African American children, made the connection between the students culture, community, home and school. They did this by living and learning their students' culture and relating it to their teaching methods and practices.

This book has really helped me in my doctoral qualitative research studies; to have a better understanding of African American culturally relevant teaching pedagody, from theory to practice. It's a must and great resource book for all pre-service and in-service teachers, all educators, administrators, student teacher supervisors, college teacher training instructors, and parents too. We can keep the hopes and dreams of our African American and all other diverse children alive! The teachers can learn and become successful and feel good about themselves and be more competent about their teaching practices. Thus, as a result of this, the students will be successful too! We must think positive, if you believe it you can achieve it. African American children can have a quality of academic achievement and success.

Hats off to this author and to the field of EDUCATION! She gives us a complete and comprehensive knowledge base of what culturally relevant teaching, teacher efficacy and self-esteem are as well. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially those in the field of education working with African American children!!!

The Book For All Teachers
I am a college student majoring in education and I had to read this book for my Education class. This book provides exemplars of effective teaching for African American students.I agree with the statement that teachers must take care not to ignore color. It examined the prospects for improving the academic performance ,and the school experiences of African American students. We must make a serious effort toward preparing teachers to teach in a culturally relevant manner.I think every beginning teacher(of all races),should read this book. The book not only stated facts, but gave examples to support the facts. This book was enjoyable, and I definitely would read it again.
